The Perfect Marriage (Collector's Edition) by Jeneva Rose, physical book, 298 pages (with bonus content 320 pages)
Synopsis from GoodReads: Sarah Morgan is one of the best criminal defense attorneys in Washington, DC. With a perfect case record and having made named partner before the age of thirty-five, her life is going exactly as she planned. However, the same cannot be said for her husband, Adam, a failed author, who’s grown to resent his wife’s meteoric success as he feels it’s come at the expense of their relationship. For almost two years, Adam has kept his affair with Kelly Summers a secret, but everything changes when her body is discovered at the couple’s lake house and Adam is arrested on suspicion of murder. Sarah now finds herself facing her most challenging case yet when she vows to defend her husband—a man accused of murdering his mistress. While Adam is certainly guilty of sleeping with Kelly, the question remains: Is he guilty of killing her too?
BOOK REVIEW: I need to go on record saying that this is the third book that I have by this author and it's the first one that I have read...and I feel ashamed! I have been missing out. I already love her personality (thanks to TikTok) but this book! Holy cow! I don't even know where to start! The fact that I actually pulled out little tabbies and made notes in my book (in erasable highlighter and on post its) just shows how incredible this was. I don't annotate and I don't know how to but what I was marking were places that I was trying to connect dots. I'll admit that I was wrong in my guessing. I did have one correct but it was a fleeting thought that I remember having but didn't write it down so can I really count it? I don't know. I also loved that this book took place somewhere I have lived before. I lived in Prince William County for a number of years and I love stories that take place somewhere familiar to me. Okay. Characters! Oh boy. I have to say that every time Deputy Hudson is mentioned, I read his name as Deputy Douche Bag. Every time that guy was in a scene, he made my blood pressure rise a little more. Don't even get me started on Adam. I have a note (not giving anything away) that I made about him being jealous over some made up affair between Sarah and the Sheriff when he, Adam, was literally the one who was on house arrest after his mistress was found dead in his bed in his house...like bro...you have no leg to stand on here. I have no problem admitting that I was wrong in all my dot connecting because that made me love this book even more! 5 STAR READ! I got the Collector's Edition when it was released in November. I never read the original but I love pretty books and when I saw the blood sprayed edges and the handprint on the hard cover, I knew I had to get it. The bonus content is amazing and there are little cartoon drawings. I would love to know how different this version is from the original version. The fact that the ending took me 100% by surprise still has my jaw on the floor. One of the ladies in book club asked, "When did you know abc?" and I said, "Not until it was revealed!" There are so many twists and turns and holy crap moments that my mom has already pre-ordered me the sequel! Run, don't walk, to get a collector's edition. I know they're at Target because that's where my mom's came from so go now!
