The Housemaid's Secret by Freida McFadden (book 2 in The Housemaid series), eBook, 318 pages

From GoodReads: It's hard to find an employer who doesn't ask too many questions about my past. So I thank my lucky stars that the Garricks miraculously give me a job, cleaning their stunning penthouse with views across the city and preparing fancy meals in their shiny kitchen. I can work here for a while, stay quiet until I get what I want. It's almost perfect but I still haven't met Mrs. Garrick, or seen inside the guest bedroom. I'm sure I hear her crying. I notice spots of blood around the neck of her white nightgowns when I'm doing laundry and one day I can't help but knock on the door. When it gently swings open, what I see inside changes everything...that's when I make a promise. After all, I've done this before. I can protect Mrs. Garrick while keeping my own secrets locked up safe. Douglas Garrick has done wrong. He is going to pay. It's simply a question of how far I'm willing to go....

I listened to The Housemaid in September 2022. While I remember the premise of the book, I can't recall all the details. I did remember that we got the first hand account of Millie, the maid, then the wife, and then a little back and forth. This book continued that same pattern. First we hear from Millie, then the wife, then a little back and forth to the end of the book. This is one of those stories that you start thinking WTF so many times and then the twist leads to more WTF. I really didn't see this one coming and I enjoyed it. It didn't give me 5 star feelings but very close. Even though it took me a while to read it because it was kind of a pallet cleanser at times, it was a pretty quick read for me. That's why I gave it a 4.75 rating. I am excited for the third book in the series to come in out in June 2024.

4.75/5 Stars
