Iron Legacy (Book 1) by Gavin Oxley, eBook, 359 pages

Synopsis from GoodReads: All Cato has ever known is the Euclid, a colony on the Gravidian moon Logos and a last bastion for humanity — or so the history spun by those in power has led him to believe. But when the Euclidian Affinity Examination known as “the Lottery” reaches its culmination, secrets begin to unravel that leave Cato longing for justice. The first of those secrets being anyone found without future societal utility is executed. Immediately. And Cato is supposed to be among them. Finding an almost impossible ally in Helena, daughter of the woman who had ordered his execution, Cato is finally given the chance to break free from the trial and injustice that hold him bound to the Euclid — bound to the lie the Iron War had come to an end. A chance he is willing to die for.

BOOK REVIEW: The debut novel by this Indie author is amazing! Think of it like a cross between District 13 in The Hunger Games and the factions in Divergent. The population of the Euclid believes that they are all that is left of humanity (Divergent) yet it is found that there is still human life where there shouldn't be (ie...District 13). The story is told from two POVs and they are told in the first person narrative which I am so grateful for! You're getting the story from Cato and Helena as they work along side their friends Teddy, Pyper, Maven, and Kelso. The world building is fascinating and the author includes a great image on his IG. I was hooked from the beginning and would have had this post published on schedule if we hadn't be plagued by illness in our house!

Overall this was a 4.5 star for me. I found some scenes I struggled to stay interested in and there was a scene that was referenced a couple of times that I have no memory of reading (but that could be that I fell asleep reading it and didn't go far enough back when I was rereading the next day). I 100% loved the ending! I know that this is a series and I expected there to be a cliff hanger and it did not disappoint. I would think of it like this is a great place to end this story verses a WTF is this author trying to do to me making me wait forever until the next book comes out! It was wrapped up nicely for me! Definitely recommend if you like the sci-fi fantasy type of books!
