GULF COAST COTTAGE Book Review

Gulf Coast Cottage (Book 1 in Blackbird Beach series) by Maggie Miller, eBook, 253 pages

From GoodReads: Escape to the Gulf Coast of Florida with Georgia Carpenter as she gets a second chance at life, love, and happiness. In the middle of an awful divorce, fifty-three-year-old Georgia Carpenter finds herself out of luck, time, and money. Then her phone rings with the news that her great aunt has died and left her a cottage in the Gulf Coast town of Blackbird Beach. Georgia has no idea what awaits her on the other coast of Florida. All she knows is that she has nowhere else to go. And no reason to stay where she is. Fortunately for her, life has far more interesting plans than she ever could have realized. Including making the acquaintance of a handsome handyman and getting the chance at a brand new start.

MY BOOK REVIEW: For the first time I actually read the description along with picking the book by the cover. I did this mostly because our book club was coming off the heavy topic in The Shack and I wanted some lighter reading for the rest of the summer. A bit of a pallet cleanser and OH BOY!!! I did good with this one! I love the relationship that Georgia has with her daughter Mia and this new journey they're both embarking on. We also get the "handsome handyman" (as the synopsis called him) Travis. Another thing I love about this book is that while we follow these three around throughout the story, the chapters are titled with the character. It's not being told in first person by each person. That is something that I have desperately missed. I don't know why authors now feel the need to have multiple POVs and change up who is first person and who is second or third person telling.

This book is the first in an 8 book series all of which were published in 2021. I will say this...this is the second author I have read in the last year that can write a cliffhanger. I love a cliffhanger and I love it even more when I don't have to wait for the next book! My only fear is that I'll continue on in the series and get too far ahead when my book club discussion isn't until the end of the month. For now, I have book 2, Gulf Coast Secrets, downloaded and ready to go once I get closer to the end of the month!

This is an immediate 5 star read for me! One of the things I've noticed so far this year is that I've done a really good job at picking books to read. I've loved the majority of them! They're mostly 4 and 5 stars with only one 3 star. I'm calling this a good year so far!
