Synopsis from GoodReads: Beware of witches bearing second chances. Susan Fletcher has been hired to infiltrate a secret society of witches. Her contact promised fame, fortune and protection from the fallout. Now Susan's contact is dead, murdered by one of the people she threatened to expose. Can Susan uncover the murderer, maintain her cover, and escape the mansion of monsters?

BOOK REVIEW: There was a lot about this story that felt confusing and out of place. This story does have good detective work. It was the ultimate need of knowing (for me personally) the who-done-it and why that kept me reading but the rest just didn't do it for me. The characters created by this author were good. The descriptions of the different communities was glossed over but I assume it is world building as this is the first book in a new series but again felt out of place. The relationship building was okay but some seemed out of place for the supposed time period that this takes place. This was a 3.5 star read for me. It was mentioned in the book a few times that we are in the late 700s yet one character has a gun which wouldn't have been made yet and the coach is described as having a hand crank on it which would have made it motorized. I understand that this is a fantasy world so this could just be a me thing but I think with all else that takes place in this book, a date could be left off and that could have eliminated some of my own confusion. I do think I'll give this author another try but I don't think I'll continue with this series.
